Surf Sports
Challenge yourself. Get fit. Compete with your mates.
Surf sports at Dixon Park is where fitness, competition, and beach culture come together. Whether you're chasing personal bests, representing the club, or just looking for a new challenge, there's a place for you.
Why People Do Surf Sports
Training and competing in surf sports sharpens your awareness, improves your technique, and pushes you to grow. It's also a lot of fun, and a great way to connect with other members who love the beach as much as you do.
Many members say surf sports is where they build their closest friendships, through shared training sessions, representing Dixon Park at competitions, and the camaraderie that comes from pushing yourself alongside your mates.
From Nippers to Masters, Dixon Park competes at branch, state, and national level—but you don't have to be an elite athlete to get involved. Everyone starts somewhere.
Disciplines We Compete In
Board Racing
Paddle a rescue board through the surf, around buoys, and back to shore. It's about power, technique, and reading the conditions.
Ski Racing
Similar to board racing, but on a surf ski—faster, more technical, and physically demanding.
Surf Boats
Crew-based ocean racing at its most demanding. A team of four rowers and a sweep navigate through the surf, around the cans, and back to shore. Surf boats are a cornerstone of Australian surf lifesaving competition and a proud part of Dixon Park's competitive history.
Beach Events
Beach Sprint: Short, explosive running races on the sand.
Beach Flags: Sprint to the finish, then dive for a flag—combines speed with agility and reaction time.
Beach Run: 2km endurance run along the beach.
Ocean Swim
Swim a set course through open water, navigating waves, currents, and other competitors.
Ironman & Ironwoman
The ultimate surf sports event—combining swim, board, ski, and beach running into one continuous race. The toughest test of fitness, skill, and mental toughness.
